In the design of Internet pages, pictures with a transparent background are often used. Using the tools of the Photoshop editor, you can turn the original background of the image into a transparent one by selecting it and removing it under the mask.
Necessary
- - Photoshop program;
- - image.
Instructions
Step 1
Load a picture for which you need a transparent background into your graphic editor in any way you are used to. You can expand the context menu by clicking on the file icon and select Photoshop from the list of programs. If the graphical editor window is already open, press Ctrl + O or use the Open option of the File menu. Double click on the layer with the image and click on the OK button of the dialog box. You now have the ability to edit the picture.
Step 2
Separate the drawing from the old background. The choice of the way in which you do this depends on the nature of the image: it is easy to select a solid object with the Magic Wand tool or the Color Range option, an object with a clear outline without small details is perfectly outlined with the Polygonal Lasso tool. For multi-colored images with more complex outlines, you can paint the mask by hand or remove the background with the Extract filter.
Step 3
To select a background or object with the Magic Wand tool, enter the value of the Tolerance parameter in the settings panel under the main menu. For correct processing of a one-color fragment, a value of ten is quite enough. By increasing the value of this parameter, you will be able to highlight more colors.
Step 4
The Color Range option on the Select menu works in a similar way. Open its settings and click on the color on the basis of which you are going to create a selection. If the subject or background is not completely selected, move the Fuzziness slider to the right.
Step 5
If the object, which should be on a transparent background, has complex outlines, duplicate the layer with the picture with the keys Ctrl + J and open the Extract filter using the option from the Filter menu. Draw the outlines of the subject with the Edge Highlighter tool. Fill the inner area of the picture with the Fill tool. Having applied the result of the filter action to the image with the OK button, load the selection from the processed layer by clicking on its icon while holding down the Ctrl key.
Step 6
Based on the selection created in one way or another, create a mask by clicking on the Add layer mask button located in the lower area of the layers palette. Working with the selection made with the Extract filter, go back to the layer with the original version of the picture.
Step 7
If the created mask hides the subject, not the background, apply the Invert option of the Adjustments group of the Image menu to it. An incorrectly created mask can be modified with the Brush tool. Paint over the areas of the picture with black that should be hidden. Fragments that should remain visible, but turned out to be transparent, paint over the mask with white.
Step 8
Using the Save As option of the File menu, save the image with a transparent background to a.png"
