Step 1
There are several ways to record your voice using various software. As a microphone, you must use a special device of the same name, and not headphones, other speakers, etc. To connect a microphone to a laptop, you must insert its plug into the pink connector on the laptop. If your portable device does not have audio connector colors, refer to the markings next to the connectors.
Step 2
Then start the audio recording program. To test the microphone, it is enough to use the standard program included in the operating systems of the Windows family. Click the Start menu and navigate to the All Programs section. Open the "Standard" list and in the "Entertainment" folder select "Sound Recorder".

In the program window that opens, click the "Record" button. You have 60 seconds at your disposal - this is the main disadvantage of this program, but you can listen to the recording and save it for later editing. To stop recording, press the "Stop" button, and the "Play" button - to listen to the recorded.
Step 4
As an editor for recorded and saved files, you can use the following utility - Sound Forge, which is also used for recording music and vocals. For a weak laptop, versions of the program 6.0 or 7.0 are quite suitable. You can run this utility from the desktop using a shortcut or by opening the same shortcut from the "All Programs" section of the "Start" menu.
Step 5
In the main window of the program that appears, to start recording, just press the button with the image of a red circle. In the recording window, you need to set some parameters. If you've used the microphone before, you probably don't need to configure anything. On the right side of the window, you will see two sensors as vertical bars. Say a few words into the microphone - the state of the sensors should change, the microphone is working properly. If there are no changes, there are problems with identifying the microphone.
Step 6
To stop the recording process, you must press the button with the image of a gray square. To save the audio track, use the Ctrl + S keyboard shortcut. In the window that opens, enter the file name, the type of the object to be saved, and click the "Save" button.
