The range of tasks successfully solved with the help of professional raster graphics editors, such as Adobe Photoshop, includes the restoration of old photos. One of the most common defects present in such images is deformation of the paper base in the form of folds and fractures. You can remove folds in Photoshop using several tools.

Instructions
Step 1
Open the image you want to remove wrinkles in Adobe Photoshop. Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + O or the "Open …" item in the File section of the main menu. In the Open dialog specify the file containing the image, and then click "Open".
Step 2
Start removing large folds against a uniform background. Choose one of them. Using the Zoom Tool, set the viewing scale that allows you to easily work with the selected fragment of the image. Activate the Patch Tool.
Step 3
Start using the Patch Tool. Hold down the left key and drag the mouse cursor over the image of the fold to be removed. A selection area appears.
Step 4
Remove the crease. Move the selection with the mouse to a fragment of the image that has a background similar in color and structure to the one damaged by the fold. As you move, you can see content filling the original area. After dragging, a smart correction of the selection will be made based on the specified background sample. Repeat steps 2-4 for all large folds.
Step 5
Start removing the smaller folds. Set a convenient viewing scale. Activate the Healing Brush Tool (it allows you to adjust arbitrary parts of the image based on the background sample in the manner of painting with a brush). Click on the Brush control in the top bar. Choose a brush of a suitable size and density.
Step 6
Remove wrinkles with the Healing Brush Tool. Press the Alt key. Click on the image near the area occupied by the fold. Release the Alt key. Hold down the left mouse button and drag along the fold. Repeat this step if necessary to achieve a satisfactory result. If necessary, adjust the position of the background source marker while correcting the defect.
Step 7
Remove small and thin folds with the Spot Healing Brush Tool. He takes a sample of the background for correcting defects directly from the correction area. Activate this tool. Choose a brush with suitable parameters. Then just slide it over the crease one or more times.
Step 8
Evaluate the result. View the entire image at different scales. If necessary, modify the individual fragments by following steps 2-7.
Step 9
Save the modified image. Use the "Save As …" or "Save for Web & Devices …" item in the File section of the main menu.
