Step 1

Click the "Start" button to bring up the main menu of the system and go to the "All Programs" item for manual defragmentation.

Step 2

Open the "Standard" item and select the "Service" section.

Step 3

Select the "Disk Defragmenter" item in the list of the opened application window.

Step 4

Select the required disk and click the "Analyze disk" button to determine the need for an operation. The number of fragmented files should not exceed 10 percent of the total number of files.

Step 5

Click the "Defragment Disk" button to perform the selected action. The defragmentation process can take from several minutes to several hours, depending on the amount of free disk space and the number of fragmented files on it.

Step 6

Click the Configure Schedule button in the new Disk Defragmenter: Modify Schedule dialog box to replace the operation time (weekly, Wednesday, 1am by default) with the desired settings.

Step 7

Enter the desired parameters in the "Frequency", "Day" and "Time" fields.

Step 8

Click the "Select disks" button to disable automatic defragmentation of specific disks and apply the check boxes only to the fields selected for operations with disks.

Step 9

Return to the main Start menu and go to Run to invoke the Registry Editor tool.

Step 10

Enter regedit in the Open field and confirm the command by pressing the Enter function key to completely disable automatic defragmentation.

Step 11

Select the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Dfrg / BootOptimizeFunction key from the list in the left pane of the Registry Editor window and create a new Enable string parameter with the value N.

Step 12

Reboot the system to apply the selected changes.
