For some CD or DVD programs to work successfully, just copying the files is not enough. Sometimes it is necessary to create an image of the storage medium in order to gain full access to the required data.
Necessary
- - Alcohol 120%;
- - DVD drive.
Instructions
Step 1
Alcohol 120% is a very popular program designed to create images of DVDs and then work with them. Go to https://trial.alcohol-soft.com/en/downloadtrial.php and download a trial version of this utility.
Step 2
Unpack the data from the downloaded archive and run the installation exe-file. Wait until the installation of the program is complete and restart your computer. Run the Alcohol 120% program and open the "Virtual Disks" menu. Find the "Number of virtual disks" field and enter the number 1. Click the "Apply" button.
Step 3
Open the tray of your DVD drive and insert the disc you want to image into it. Return to the main menu of the program and go to the "Image creation" item. Select the DVD drive you inserted the disc into. Click "Next".
Step 4
Specify the folder where the disk image file will be saved. Enter the name of the future file and click the "Next" button. The imaging process can take over an hour. Its duration depends on the capabilities of your DVD drive and the characteristics of the disc being read.
Step 5
After the imaging is complete, remove the disc from the drive. The name of the created image will appear in the main menu of the program. Click on it with the right mouse button and hover over the item "Mount to device". In the menu that opens, select a virtual DVD drive by clicking on it with the left mouse button.
Step 6
If you want to use a free analogue of the Alcohol program for working with images, download the Daemon Tools Lite program from the site https://www.daemon-tools.cc/rus/products/dtLite. Install it, right-click on the tray icon and select "Create Image". Further actions are not much different from the algorithm for working with the Alcohol 120% program.
