To increase the system performance in OS Windows, a space is allocated on the hard disk - a paging file, where intermediate results of calculations are loaded from random access memory (RAM). RAM and the paging file are collectively referred to as virtual memory.

Instructions

Step 1

If your computer is processing several applications at once or any one, but occupying a lot of memory, the message "Not enough paging file" may appear. You need to increase the size of the file on your hard drive. To open the context menu, right-click on the "My Computer" icon. Select the "Properties" option, the "Advanced" tab in the properties window. In the "Performance" section, click "Options" and go to the "Advanced" tab.

Step 2

It is better not to install the paging file on the system disk, because access to it will slow down the work. Select the least loaded logical drive on your computer and assign it to host the paging file. Click the Custom Size radio button, then enter the minimum and maximum file values in the appropriate fields. To calculate the minimum value, multiply the amount of RAM on your computer by 1.5

Step 3

If the paging file is installed on the system drive, select drive "C" from the list, then set the value "No paging file". Click the Set and OK buttons. Changes will be saved after restarting the computer.

Step 4

There are two ways to change virtual memory - increase the paging file size and increase RAM. On the motherboard manufacturer's website, find a list of types of RAM with which the motherboard will work without conflicts. It is better to choose the same manufacturer, whose memory is already installed in your computer. Disconnect the system unit from the power supply. Unscrew the tightening screws on the chassis and remove the side panel. Fit the memory strips into the corresponding slots until they click. Replace the side panel, connect power to the computer. After switching on, the system polls the hardware, first of all, the memory. The new RAM value should be displayed on the monitor screen.

Step 5

You can also view the memory size from Windows. Right-click on the "My Computer" icon, select the "Properties" option from the context menu. The bottom line of the "Computer" section lists the RAM capacity.
