The increase in the capacity of removable USB-drives, comparable to local drives, has led to the realization of the importance of the second main indicator of the performance of a flash drive - speed. The Microsoft Windows operating system does not have a built-in tool for testing the speed of removable media, so let's look at some free utilities designed to accomplish this task.

Use the Check Flash tool, created by Ukrainian developer M. Cherkes, to perform media speed testing, error detection and formatting procedures. Specify the drive selected for scanning in the application settings, and select the required parameters for the number and method of scanning. The utility is universal for all versions of Microsoft Windows.

The program is universal for all types of removable media and allows you to test the speed of information exchange by several selected parameters at the same time. Use the free version of the commercial Flash Memory Toolkit to extend the functionality of the above applications. In addition to checking the speed of removable media, Flash Memory Toolkit has the function of recovering deleted files and is able to create backup copies of information saved on the disk.
