Measuring the amount of information is necessary for various purposes - for example, for traffic accounting, for calculating the required disk space, and so on. How can you measure it?
Instructions
Step 1
If you need to measure the amount of information received and sent over the network during the period of connection, to do this, double-click the icon with the image of blinking monitors in the program panel running in the background. A small window will appear on your screen displaying the duration of the network connection, the speed and the amount of information transmitted during the connection.
Step 2
If you need to measure the amount of information in a specific folder, just right-click in the shortcut-free area and select Properties from the menu. You will see a window where all the available information will be written about the number of files in the folder, their size, and so on. Alternatively, you can right-click on the folder and select Properties without going into the directory.
Step 3
Proceed in the same way as in the previous paragraph if you need to measure the amount of information on a hard disk or removable storage device (USB, CD, DVD, etc.), only to do this, first go to "My Computer".
Step 4
If you need to measure the amount of information in a text file, open it using the Microsoft Office Word program, select the text using the left mouse button or the Ctrl + A keyboard shortcut, click in the lower left corner on the highlighted button with the word count. A window will appear on your screen with information about the number of words, characters, etc. The standard editors Word Pad and Notepad do not support this feature.
Step 5
If you need to know the size of a file downloaded over the network, click on the link with the left mouse button and look at the amount of information in the new download window.
Step 6
If you need to know how much space a file occupies on your hard disk, right-click on it and see its properties. Keep in mind that this should not be just a shortcut.
