Phillips small screwdriver

Instructions

Step 1

Turn off your computer. Turn off the power supplied to the motherboard by flipping the toggle switch on the back of the system unit. Also, physically disconnect the computer from the power supply, unplug the plug from the outlet.

Step 2

Loosen the screws that hold the side panels of the system unit. Remove the walls of the system unit.

Step 3

Touch the metal case of the system unit or battery with a screwdriver. This is not a ritual at all, but a way to relieve the stress that builds up statically.

Step 4

Remove all cables and power wires from the connectors on the motherboard.

Step 5

If you have a separate video card (and sometimes sound and other cards), then do not forget that it is usually fastened with a screw to the back of the computer case. Unscrew this screw, pull out the wires leading from the motherboard to the video card. If the video card is supported in the slot with snap keys, then do not forget to spread them apart. Gently pull the video card out of the slot.

Step 6

The RAM can be removed while the motherboard is still inside the system unit. To do this, press down on the latches, spreading them apart, and pull out the RAM bar. Repeat this step for all RAM sticks if there is more than one.

Step 7

Locate and loosen all the screws securing the motherboard to the case of the system unit. Pull the motherboard out of the box. If necessary, remove the fan and processor from it. Place the card in an antistatic bag or shipping carton.
