A flat cable is called a flat cable that connects various elements and blocks in a computer and other electronic devices. When self-assembling, upgrading or repairing a computer, the user has to disconnect and connect the cables. Connecting them incorrectly may cause the computer to malfunction.
Instructions
Step 1
In order to prevent the cable from being inserted incorrectly, so-called keys are usually introduced into its design - protrusions and grooves that allow only correct installation. Nevertheless, some devices may still be connected incorrectly - for example, if you put two devices on one IDE cable. The middle connector on the ribbon cable may not contain a key, which makes it difficult to connect the device.
Step 2
Take a close look at the loop - its first wire is red. Then look at the connector of the connected device, on it the first pin and the last one are marked with numbers. The colored wire on the ribbon must match the first pin of the connector.
Step 3
Even with the correct connection of two devices to the same loop, they may not work or work with malfunctions if the jumpers are incorrectly set on them. On the device connected to the end of the loop, the jumper must be in the master position. On the second device connected to the middle connector, the jumper is placed in the slave position. If a hard disk and a DVD “hang” on one loop, then the hard disk must be the master, it is connected to the end of the loop.
Step 4
Do not use force when connecting the loop. If the block is not included, it means that you are inserting it the other way around, or you have inaccurately aligned the contacts. Very often, you have to connect the cable almost by touch, which causes difficulties. Holding the ribbon connector by the edges, feel the edges of the mating connector with your fingertips. Then, gently shaking the shoe, align it with the connector and insert it carefully. With the correct connection, you will feel that it has entered by about 5 mm.
Step 5
Connecting SATA cables usually does not cause any problems, since their pads cannot be inserted incorrectly. Many of them have a special metal clip, which allows you to more securely fix the cable. Since only one device is always connected to a SATA cable, there is no need to worry about the position of the jumpers. Do not forget that SATA devices also have their own power connector. If your computer only has old power connectors (MOLEX), you will need a special adapter.
