Necessary

Laptop, headset (headphones, microphone)

Instructions

Step 1

The sound card of the laptop has commutation jacks for finger connectors brought out to the outer side panel of the laptop case. The headphone plug is marked in green. Insert the headphone jack, holding it by the plastic housing of the plug, into the line-out jack of your sound card. Most often it is also green, although sometimes the marking is done not with color, but with a symbol. The headset can be connected with the laptop turned on. When connecting, do not touch the connector with your hand.

Step 2

Connect the microphone with the pink plug to the microphone input of the sound card of the same color or the microphone marked with the symbol. The equipment is ready for use.

Step 3

After connecting, configure audio recording and playback. It is carried out from the "Volume" dialog box, which can be opened from the "Start - Programs - Accessories - Entertainment - Volume" menu. Here you can set the level of balance and playback, turn on devices.

Step 4

Click on the Options menu of this window and select Record. In the "Recording Control" window that opens, select "Microphone" by checking the box. The microphone is ready for recording.

Step 5

Select "Sound Recorder" from the menu "Start - Programs - Accessories - Entertainment". Take a test recording of audio from the microphone using the Sound-Sound Recorder panel. Save the recording result to the hard drive by choosing "File - Save As …". Run the saved audio file to test the headset's performance.

Step 6

Windows 7 makes setting up sound easier. To do it, open the "Sound" window from the "Control Panel". On the existing tab of the "Recording" window, select a configurable microphone and configure it. The signal level will be displayed on the "Tuning Wizard" bar. Microphone gain and volume are adjusted on the “Levels” tab.
