Thermal grease is an essential component of a computer's cooling system. With its help, better heat transfer to the cooler and radiator takes place, which enables the fan to work more efficiently. When replacing a processor cooling element, it is important to apply the thermal grease correctly to avoid overheating the equipment.

Instructions

Step 1

Thermal grease can be purchased at a computer store or radio market. When choosing a manufacturer, pay attention to the thermal conductivity of the composition, which is measured in W / m * K. A suitable value for use on a processor is 0.7, however, products from some manufacturers may have higher values.

Step 2

Unplug the computer before applying thermal paste. Disconnect all wires going to the device, pull out the power cord. Remove the side panel of the computer by unscrewing the fasteners or loosening the latches. Place it on a flat, well-lit surface.

Step 3

Unplug the CPU cooler. To do this, you will have to unscrew a few securing screws and then open the latches that hold the cooler to the heatsink. Carefully remove the cooling system by disconnecting the power cable from the motherboard.

Step 4

Remove the remnants of the old thermal paste. To do this, use a soft cloth. Gently wipe off the applied compound to completely clean the processor.

Step 5

Apply new thermal grease to the surface of the processor. It is important that the layer is as thin as possible, and the distance between the cooler and the contact area is minimal. If you make a layer that is too thick, the hardware may overheat, which could cause the processor to break down. Squeeze the composition out of the tube in small portions. Be careful not to accidentally spill the paste onto the motherboard.

Step 6

After completing the procedure, install the cooler back onto the processor by snapping the desired mounts and screwing the bolts back in. Remember to plug the power cord back into the motherboard. Replace the side cover of the computer, and then plug it in and turn it on to test it.
