Instructions

Step 1

Before proceeding to connecting the device using the operating system options, make sure that it is physically connected, that is, all the necessary interface cables (loops) of the built-in device are in the corresponding slots, and the external device is plugged into the power supply and correctly connected to the computer.

Step 2

When turned on for the first time, some of the devices are recognized automatically and do not require additional actions from the user (for example, a mouse, speakers). In other cases, for correct operation, you need to install a driver (video card, scanner). Insert the installation CD into the CD-ROM, open setup.exe, install.exe or autorun.exe or wait for the CD to start automatically. Following the instructions of the installer, install the driver on the hard disk of your computer, if necessary, restart the computer after that. If the installation disc is missing, download the driver from the official site of the hardware developer.

Step 3

Use the Add New Hardware Wizard to enable the device correctly. To do this, go through the "Start" menu in the "Control Panel" and select the icon of the desired device in the "Printers and other hardware" section, then follow the instructions of the installer. To check the status of the installed equipment, get help in installing drivers or diagnose problems, click on the "Install hardware" icon in the control panel and select the device you want to connect from the generated list.

Step 4

To turn on a device that was already correctly installed, but for one reason or another was temporarily inactive, call the "System Properties" window. To do this, from the desktop, right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select the "Properties" command by clicking on it with any mouse button, or enter the "Control Panel" through the "Start" menu and select the "System" icon.

Step 5

In the System Properties dialog box that opens, go to the Hardware tab. Call the "Device Manager" window from this tab by clicking on the button of the same name. Another way: through the Start menu, call the Run command, enter mmc devmgmt.msc in the empty field and press the Enter key or the OK button. In the "Device Manager" window, select from the list the type of device that you want to activate, and expand the list of devices by clicking on the "+" icon or by double-clicking the left mouse button on the desired line.

Step 6

Select the required device in the subdirectory and right-click on it. In the drop-down menu, select the "Engage" command. Another way. Double-click on the device name with the left mouse button or click once with the right mouse button and select the "Properties" item in the drop-down menu. In the device properties window that opens, go to the "General" tab, in the "Device application" section, select the "This device is in use (enabled)" line in the drop-down list. Confirm your choice. Close the Device Properties, Device Manager and System Properties window.
