When installing the operating system, some users do not pay attention to how the boot disk determines the system partitions on the hard drive. Often there are cases when the system is not located on the partition on which it should have been installed. But many programs require the operating system to be installed on the "C:" drive.

Necessary

  • - computer;
  • - operating system;
  • - administrator rights.

Instructions

Step 1

To install a system disk on your computer, you first need to create it. If you already have one, you need to configure some system parameters. Log in as an administrator. If you are not sure which category your account is - go to the "Control Panel" through the "start" menu. Select the "User Accounts" section and find your account. Next to your name, the category as a computer user will also be displayed. If you are not an administrator, then find the administrator account. Next, reboot the system and log in under it.

Step 2

Give the administrator full access. Run the regedit32.exe utility using the command line. Find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEMMountedDevices section, and from the Security menu, select Permissions. Set the administrator full access. Close the regedit32.exe utility.

Step 3

Rename the "wrong" drive "C:". To set a different drive letter to the wrong system drive, run the regedit.exe utility through the command line. Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMMountedDevices, review the options and find the one with the drive letter. Right-click the parameter and click Rename. Give the failed system disk any letter of the Latin alphabet you like.

Step 4

Rename the system drive. Repeat the manipulations from the previous paragraph, only now find the parameter of the disk that you want to rename. Give it the letter "C" and close the program. Reboot your computer. To fine-tune the operating system or to eliminate the consequences of an incorrect installation, Windows provides service utilities. Using them, you can easily adjust the settings as you need. Just don't forget to do restore points.
