Hundreds of people have to deal with the fact that their computer suddenly turns on after waking up from sleep mode. Sometimes the computer can turn on at the same time of day, or it turns on suddenly. There may be several reasons for this behavior.
Scheduled Updates
On Windows operating systems, jobs are scheduled to run automatically. This means that some programs are updated automatically. In order to find out how the task scheduler works on a computer, you need to find it through the start menu. It is located in the All Programs folder and in the Utilities subfolder. Opening it, you will see that updates are installed on it at a specific time, and this time can be changed. You can also change the refresh rate. Alternatively, when the task is running, you can simply disable it.
BIOS settings
When you turn on the computer, you can see that the operating system does not load immediately. First, the computer slows down for a while, and then the operating system startup screen lights up. At this time, the BIOS is running, the basic input / output system that allows the operating system to connect to the computer's hardware.
BIOS is a system, in the settings of which it is often possible to "wake up" a computer located on the other end of the network in case it is connected to power. The Remote Power On command can work if the computer is connected via Ethernet or when connected wirelessly to a network.
The technology, thanks to which the computer turns on remotely, is called Wake-On-LAN. On some computers, it is enabled by default. Then the computer can be turned on remotely at a certain time.
To change the Wake-On-LAN settings, you need to enter the BIOS program. To do this, turn off the computer and turn it on again. Without waiting for Windows to load, you must press the Delete key until the BIOS screen appears. It is a black screen with white words and numbers. Then go to Power Options. In the drop-down list, go to the Wake On LAN line and change the setting to Disable.
Press F10 and select “Yes” to exit the program.
The computer should turn on again and the problem should be resolved.
Alternatively, in BIOS go to Power Management and select Wake on Alarm. It can be set to turn on daily. Disable it.
Other reasons to turn on the computer yourself
In some cases, the computer may turn on by itself due to shutdown problems. They can occur due to incompatible computer hardware, conflicting programs, damaged driver. As a result, after shutdown, the system automatically turns on again.
To prevent this from happening, disable the "Enable on system error" command. To do this, right-click on the "Computer" icon, go to the "Properties" line. Select the Advanced System Settings tab. In the "Advanced" tab, find the "Startup and Recovery" feature and configure it. To do this, uncheck the "Perform automatic restart" box.
