The headphones are supplied with various types of plugs. In addition, the sound card of any computer is usually equipped with at least three slots. For the headphones to sound, you must select the correct jack and, if necessary, use an adapter.
Instructions
Step 1
Make sure the headphones are truly stereo. If they are equipped with a jack plug that has not three, but two contacts, then they are monaural. Never connect them directly to your computer. Such a plug will short-circuit the amplifier's right channel output and disable it. Assemble the simplest adapter consisting of a monaural jack and a stereo plug. For the latter, do not use the middle pin.
Step 2
In case the headphones are stereophonic, and they are equipped with a Jack-type plug with a diameter of 3.5 mm, connect them directly to the green jack of the sound card. If the card is old, the slots on the card may not be color coded. In this case, use the one next to which the inscription "Phones" is located, or there is a stylized drawing of headphones.
Step 3
Professional headphones equipped with a stereo jack plug with a diameter of 6, 3 mm, connect to the sound card through a special adapter. In no case should it be monophonic, otherwise the situation described in step 1 will arise. Ready-made adapters are inconvenient, since together with the plug they can create a radial mechanical load on the socket. Therefore, assemble the adapter yourself from a 3.5 mm stereo plug and a 6.3 mm stereo jack, connecting their contacts of the same name with flexible wires.
Step 4
Some connoisseurs of high-quality sound still use the line of domestic headphones of the TDS series. They are usually supplied with ONTs-VG type plugs. To manufacture the adapter, first determine the pinout of the plug using an ohmmeter. When it is connected between the common contact and the input of this or that kalan, the click when connected is heard only in the corresponding channel. If it is connected between the terminals of the left and right channels, the click is heard in both channels at the same time, since the radiators are connected in series. Having determined in this way which contacts correspond to the common wire and stereo channels, make an adapter consisting of a five-pin ONTs-VG type socket and a 3.5-inch stereo plug.
