Having bought a new hard drive, some users do not even realize that first they need to prepare it for use and then install the OS on it, copy files, and so on. Such a preparatory procedure is to format the disk and then divide it into logical partitions.
Necessary
Partition Manager program
Instructions
Step 1
You can divide hard into partitions directly when installing the operating system. In Windows Seven OS, the process is as follows.
Step 2
Start the OS installation process. When a window appears with a list of hard disks connected to the PC, click on the "Disk settings" button - several sub-items will appear. Highlight the required hard and click on the "Delete" button. The disc name will change to the following: "Unallocated area". Highlight it, then click on the button called "Create".
Step 3
Select the appropriate file system format for the not yet formatted and unpartitioned hard drive. Set the size of the partition, click the "Apply" button. Create another section in the same way. Repeat the operation several times if necessary.
Step 4
If you don't need to install the system on a new hard drive, but you just want to use it as additional storage, download the Partition Manager program from the Internet and install it on your PC. Then restart your computer.
Step 5
Run the program. Above the toolbar, find the "Wizards" tab, open it. Then select the item called "Create Section". Opposite the line "Power user mode" you will see a checkbox where you need to check the box by clicking the right mouse button. Click Next.
Step 6
Now specify the hard where you need to create a new partition. Click on the "Next" button. By moving the slider, set the desired size for the future local disk. Select the checkbox next to the line "Create as logical partition" and click "Next".
Step 7
Select the file system format in the window that opens, specify the letter of the future volume, click Next, then Finish.
Step 8
On the toolbar, find the "Apply Pending Changes" button. It remains to wait until the end of the procedure for creating a new section.
