Skype is a convenient free program for audio and video communication over the Internet. Skype does not have a built-in ability to record conversations on a computer, however, you can use third-party utilities for this purpose.
Instructions
Step 1
Download Free Video Call Recorder for Skype from the developer's site. Exit Skype, if it was open, and start the installation of the program by double-clicking on the startup file. On the first screen, select the installation language from the drop-down list. Following the instructions of the wizard, specify the folder for installing the program.
Step 2
Since the utility is free, its authors make money by adding installations of third-party programs and links to other web resources to their product. If you want to refuse to install the accompanying software on your computer, uncheck the box in the corresponding screen during the installation process. However, keep in mind that you will have to agree to at least one of the suggestions, otherwise the installation will be aborted. You can go back one step in any screen to select the least intrusive service from the list.
Step 3
After starting, the program window appears on the desktop, and its icon in the tray. By default, the video conference recording mode is set. To record the entire dialogue or only the speech of your interlocutor, select the appropriate item in the "Recording mode" drop-down list.
Step 4
In the "Output Folder" window, specify the location where the audio and video recordings will be saved. The default is C: / Documents and Settings / USER / My Documents / My Videos. To adjust the recording quality in the "Tools" menu, click "Options". By default, the audio file is saved in mp3 format and the video in H.263. Select the settings that suit you and click OK.
Step 5
Start a Skype conversation and click the round Start button. The countdown will start on the digital display. After the end of the dialogue, click "Stop". To listen to the recording, click the Show in Folder button.
Step 6
If your computer is running Windows Vista or higher, you can use the free MP3 Skype Recorder plugin. Download the utility from the manufacturer's website and run it. In the Recordings Destination Folder window, specify the folder to save the recordings.
Step 7
The Record Launch Options line is set to Auto start ON by default, i.e. automatic launch of the utility simultaneously with Skype. You can choose to manually launch the plugin.
Step 8
In the Recording Settings section, set the recording quality parameters. Here you can select mono or stereo mode for audio files. The higher the recording quality, the more disk space the file takes up. To start recording a conversation in skype, press the ON button, to end - OFF.
