Step 1

If there is an unallocated area on the hard drive of your computer, use the standard Windows 7 tools to create a new local disk. Turn on your PC and open Control Panel.

Step 2

Select the "System and Security" menu. Go to the "Administration" item. Find the shortcut "Computer Management" and double-click on it with the left mouse button. Open the "Disk Management" item located in the "Storage Devices" menu.

Step 3

Right-click on an unoccupied area of the hard drive. Select "Create Volume". Select the size of the new local disk and its file system. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Step 4

If you need to create a new local disk using the free space of an existing partition, use Acronis Disk Director. Install it and restart your PC.

Step 5

Launch Disk Director and select the manual mode of the program. Highlight a local drive to be partitioned. Click the Split button.

Step 6

In the next menu, specify the folders that will be automatically moved to the new section. If you want to create an empty volume, you can skip this step. Click Next and set the size of the new local disk. After preparing the section, click the Ok button.

Step 7

Now find the Run button on the toolbar and click it. Confirm the start of the process of creating a new local disk. To continue running Disk Director, you will need to start DOS mode. Wait until the required window appears and click the "Restart now" button.

Step 8

The process of creating a new local disk can take over an hour. Once completed, the Windows operating system will boot. Make sure the new partition appears in the list of volumes.
