There are several options for creating a second local disk. The choice depends on how you plan to do it. You also need to consider whether you will be installing an operating system, or one is already available.
Step 2
First, let's consider a situation in which you need to install an operating system, having previously created a second partition on your hard disk for this. This operation is possible when installing Windows Vista or Seven.
Step 3
Run the installer and begin this process. At some point, a window containing a list of hard drives will appear on the screen. Click the Disk Setup button. Specify the partition from which you want to separate the second local disk. Click the Delete button.
Step 4
Now click the "Create" button. Set the file system type of the future partition and its size. Repeat this step to create a second local disk. Choose one of them and install the operating system on it.

But there are often situations when you need to create a second partition without reinstalling the operating system. In such cases, it is customary to use special utilities. Download the Partition Manager program. Please note that not all of its versions are compatible with 64-bit systems.
Step 6
Install the program, restart your computer and run it. Open the Quick Create Section menu. Specify the hard disk from the free space of which the new partition will be created. Click "Next". Select the file system type of the new local disk and set the size for it. Note: since the original disk will not be formatted, a new partition can only be created from its free area.

Find the "Apply" button located on the main toolbar of the program and click it. The process of creating a new partition can take several hours.
