Some types of network devices are highly customizable. This is especially true for routers that do not support automatic firewall configuration and some other network parameters.

Instructions

Step 1

After selecting and installing a suitable router for you, connect this network equipment to the AC power. Connect the cable provided by your ISP to the DSL (WAN or Internet) connector. If you are using a DSL modem to access the Internet, then connect the WAN channel of the router to the LAN port of the modem.

Step 2

Connect a stationary computer or laptop to the router. To do this, connect the LAN (Ethernet) connector of the device to the computer's network card using a network cable. Turn on the selected PC and wait for the operating system to load. Now turn on your internet browser. Enter the IP of the router in the address bar of the program and press the Enter key.

Step 3

After entering the device settings menu, go to WAN (Internet). Configure the Internet access parameters by specifying the address of the provider's server or the IP of the DSL modem to which this router is connected.

Step 4

If the selected network equipment supports the ability to create a wireless access point (Wi-Fi), configure this network by opening the Wireless Settings menu.

Step 5

Now take up the detailed configuration of the network connection parameters. Connect desktop computers, printers and IP-TV set-top boxes to the LAN ports of your router. Open the Routing Table menu. To open the required port for a specific device, write down the server IP addresses for each LAN connector yourself.

Step 6

This is especially true when connecting to the Internet via a VPN channel. To configure, for example, a TV set-top box, write down the address of the local server to which this device should access. Otherwise, the router will provide the set-top box with access to external resources, and this device is unlikely to be able to work properly.

Step 7

Save the settings for this menu. Be sure to reboot your router to apply any changes you made.
