The need to use a modem to play multiplayer games can be caused by various reasons, but the very procedure for setting up such a connection continues to be one of the most popular topics on most gaming forums.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main system menu of the main computer, which will act as a server, by clicking the "Start" button, and go to the "Control Panel" item. Expand the Network Connections link and expand the Create New Connection node to launch the wizard utility.
Step 2
Skip the first window of the wizard by clicking the Next button and select the "Set up a direct connection to another computer" command in the next dialog box. Confirm the execution of the selected action by clicking the "Next" button and select the "Accept incoming connections" item in the new window. Click the "Next" button and specify the modem to use in the next dialog box.
Step 3
Apply the check box next to "Allow Virtual Private Connections" in the next window and click "Next" again. Use the "Add" command in the opened user selection window and type the name of the selected account and password in the corresponding fields of the form. Click the "Next" button to go to the "Select programs for working with the network" section and open the Internet protocol properties dialog box by clicking the "Configure" button. Specify the selected IP addresses of the server being created and future client computers and complete the wizard by clicking the Next button for the last time.
Step 4
Run the New Connection Wizard utility on the client computer in the same way and select the "Connect to the Internet" item. Confirm the selected action by clicking the "Next" button and select the "Set up connection manually" option in the new dialog box. Confirm your choice by clicking the "Next" button and apply the checkbox to the "Via regular modem" field in the next window.
Step 5
Type any value in the "Service Provider Name" line and enter the phone number used by the modem in the new dialog box of the wizard. Save your changes by clicking OK and type the username and password you specified earlier in the appropriate fields on the form. Complete the wizard by clicking Finish.
