Necessary

  • - installation disk for Windows XP;
  • - Partition Manager.

Instructions

Step 1

The Windows XP operating system setup program does not allow you to fine-tune your hard drive. If your hard drive is not partitioned, and you need to save important data, then connect the hard drive to another computer.

Step 2

Turn on the second PC and wait for the operating system to load. You can simply copy the files you need to another hard drive and return them after installing Windows XP. But to avoid similar problems in the future, it is recommended to divide the hard drive into at least two local drives. Install the Partition Manager program. Reboot your computer.

Step 3

Run this utility and open the "Wizards" tab. Specify the item "Create section". In the new window, check the boxes next to the "Mode for advanced users" option and click the "Next" button. Highlight your hard drive and click the "Next" button again. Select the size of the future partition. It is recommended that you create a disk that is larger than 20 GB. Check the box next to "Create as a logical partition" and click the "Next" button.

Step 4

Now select the file system of the future volume and click the Next and Finish buttons. Open the "Changes" menu, click the "Apply Changes" button. Disconnect the hard drive after the program is finished and connect it to your PC.

Step 5

Insert the Windows installation disc into the drive and turn on the computer. Hold down the F8 key and select DVD-Rom from the menu that appears. Select "Install Windows". In the new window, select the disk partition you recently created. Select "Format to NTFS" and press the F key to confirm this operation.

Step 6

After the first restart of the PC, set the time and date, enter the username and password. Wait for the installation of the operating system to complete. Be sure to update the drivers for some hardware.
