There can be many reasons for replacing a processor: improving computer performance, installing a new processor instead of a damaged old one, a desire to experiment, etc. It does not matter why you are going to change the processor, it is important how to do it so as not to damage the "stone" itself, the motherboard or other equipment.

Necessary

  • CPU
  • Thermal paste
  • Crosshead screwdriver

Instructions

Step 1

The choice of "stone".

So that difficulties do not arise at the selection stage, carefully study the instructions for your motherboard and find out which processor models are suitable for working with it. It is important to take into account the socket, the number of cores in the processor and its frequency.

Step 2

Removing the old processor.

To remove the processor from the motherboard, unscrew 3-4 screws that secure the cooling fan to the motherboard, disconnect the fan power cord from the motherboard, and remove the heatsink with a cooler. Now bend back the spring holding the cover on the socket against the processor. Carefully remove the old "stone", being careful not to touch its tendrils.

Step 3

Installing a new processor.

In fact, you need to follow the entire algorithm described in step 2, adding one more item to it. Install the processor into the socket, close the cover, and apply thermal grease to the top of the processor. Usually, a volume corresponding to the volume of the tube cap is sufficient. It must be applied to the center of the upper side of the "stone". Reinstall the heatsink with fan, screw them on and connect the power. When installing the heatsink, run it around the processor a little. This will allow the thermal paste to spread evenly.
