Changing the Windows registry entries in the Reg file is used to export and import registry keys and branches. The information contained in the Reg file becomes part of the registry, so you should be aware of the potential for disrupting the performance of the entire system when using this method.

Instructions

Step 1

Create a new Reg file. To do this, open the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button and open the "All programs" link. Expand Accessories and start Notepad. Create a new document.

Step 2

Type Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 on the first line and leave the second blank. Enter the value of the required registry key on the third line, using the brackets at the beginning and end of the path. Enter the value of the name of the imported data item in the fourth line of the document you are creating, and specify the data type after the equal sign (=). The last line of the new Reg file should be empty.

Step 3

Save the changes and run the created Reg file using the standard method as a normal application. Authorize the execution of the selected action in the system request window that opens by clicking the OK button.

Step 4

Return to the main system menu "Start" to complete the procedure for adding the selected subkey to the system registry and go to the "Run" dialog. Type the value regedit in the "Open" line and confirm the launch of the utility by clicking the OK button.

Step 5

Define the registry branch to be edited and open the File menu of the upper service panel of the editor window. Specify the "Export" item to create a backup copy and enter the desired value for the name of the created Reg-file in the "File name" line. Use the "Save" button.

Step 6

Use the minus sign (-) before entering the path of the system registry branch to be deleted to delete it in the generated Reg file. The same method is also suitable for deleting registry values, only the - (minus) character must be placed before the equal sign. Changing the name of a subsection or its value implies first deleting and re-creating the selected branch or its value with a new name.
