When an operating system is installed on a computer for the first time, the hard drive is split into several logical drives. But there are times when you need to add one more to the existing disks. For example, to store work-related files. Or to collect all personal files on one logical drive and set a password, thereby restricting other users' access to your files. You can create an additional disk without deleting all partitions on the hard disk and reinstalling the operating system.
Necessary
computer, Partirtion Magic program, Internet access
Instructions
Step 1
In order to create an additional hard disk partition, you will need the Partirtion Magic program. Download it and install it on your computer. After installing the program, new functions will appear in the context menu of the hard disk. To create an additional disk, you must first free up memory for that disk. To do this, select the logical partition of the hard disk, the amount of memory of which will be reduced by clicking on this disk with the right mouse button. In the menu that appears, select Operations, then the Resize / Move parameter. You will be taken to the hard disk partition structure menu.
Step 2
Select the Free Space Before option. There will be a value string next to it. Set it to 0. After that, select the New Size section, in which set the new size of this disk. Calculate it in such a way as to free up memory for another logical partition. For example, a logical disk has a size of 100 gigabytes, if you set the new size to 60 gigabytes, therefore 40 will be available for the new disk.
Step 3
Please note - you can only free up free space. If necessary, you can temporarily transfer files to another section. Then you can free up more space. The rest of the parameters do not need to be filled in, they will be filled in automatically after saving the settings. Save the settings. The volume of this disk has been reduced, which means you have free disk space for the new partition.
Step 4
The program menu now has the Unallocated item. Click on it with the right mouse button. Then select Create As and go to Primary Partition. Now in the Size line you can set the size of the new disk. Do not change anything in this line, leave "Default". The program will automatically determine all the free space of the hard drive on this disk. Now save your settings and restart your computer. After rebooting, go to "My Computer". Now there is another disk there.
