References are an integral part of any research work, be it a doctoral dissertation or a school abstract. Thanks to this list, anyone interested can delve into the essence of the work in more detail by reading the primary sources. To correctly compile this list, you need to know the strict rules for writing it.
Instructions
Step 1
Arrange the source numbers in the list in ascending order only. This will ensure the convenience of searching through the link of a particular literary source. If the source you cite has several authors, but no more than three, cite them as follows. First write the last name and initials of the first author, then the full name of the source. Then put a slash ("/") and list all other authors separated by commas. It is important that in this case the initials should go first, not the author's surname.
Step 2
Start with the name of the source if it has more than three authors, then use a slash and list them all separated by commas. If there are a lot of them, then shorten this list as follows: indicate the surname and initials of the first author, and then write “et al.”.
Step 3
To compile the list correctly, after specifying the title and authors, put a full stop and a dash, and then indicate the place of publication of the source, including the name of the publisher, the year of publication and the city. Then enter the number of printed pages as well as the number of illustrations. This information can be found on one of the pages at the end of the book.
Step 4
Check the correspondence of the location of references in the text to the numbers of the sources indicated in the list. Use only verified information to build your list. Do not try to give it a more solid look, artificially inflating it with a large number of non-existent or unrelated sources of the work indicated in the title. Preliminary compilation of a bibliography will also have a beneficial effect on the compilation of the work itself.
Step 5
Analyze possible sources to see if they can be used. If among the sources there are articles posted on Internet resources, then they are indicated as follows. Divide the description into two parts. In the first, indicate the surname, name and patronymic of the author, as well as the name of the source. Then put the sign "//" and indicate the name of the resource from which the article was taken.
