When processing a recording of an Internet broadcast, when creating an audio track for a video, or in the case when you need a new ringtone for your phone, it becomes necessary to cut a fragment from a music file. This simple operation can be done using the sound editor Adobe Audition.
Necessary
- - Adobe Audition program;
- - sound file.
Instructions
Step 1
Load the file into the sound editor using the Open option of the File menu. If the music, a fragment from which you need to save as a separate file, is a video soundtrack, load the sound into the program using the Open Audio From Video option, which is located in the same menu.
Step 2
Indicate the fragment you are going to cut. To do this, place the cursor at the beginning of the passage and, moving the mouse while holding the left button to the right, select the part you are interested in. If the file is too long, scale the graphic display of the sound wave by clicking on the Zoom In Horizontally button located in the Zoom palette. To zoom out again, click on the Zoom Out Horizontally button located in the same palette.
Step 3
Copy and paste the selected piece of music into a new audio track. To do this, use the Copy to New option from the Edit menu. The track will appear in the sound editor window containing only the copied piece of music.
Step 4
If necessary, you can insert a few seconds of silence at the beginning and end of the fragment. To do this, place the cursor at the very beginning of the passage and use the Silence option from the Generate menu. When this option is used with the default settings, a second of silence is added to the sound file, starting at the position of the cursor. To insert a segment of a different duration, enter the required value in the Silence Time field of the option settings window.
Step 5
If the volume of the cut fragment seems to you insufficient, edit the sound using the filters from the Amplitude group of the Effects menu. All filters in this group, with the exception of Normalize, provide an opportunity to preview the result of applying new settings. Using the Amplify / Fade option, you can adjust the volume increase at the beginning and decrease at the end of the edited section.
Step 6
If you do not need to save the cut fragment, but delete it from the original file, select the unnecessary audio segment and apply the Adjust Selection Inward option from the Zero Crossing group of the Edit menu. Using this option will allow you to get a smooth seam in place of the deleted passage. To delete the selected part of the file, press the Delete key.
Step 7
To save the edited fragment, use the Save As option from the File menu.
