Features of modern culture, imbued with information technology, largely affect the perception and use of traditional culture elements by society. So the production of cinema today is often the basis of images (collages, demotivators) distributed on the Internet. To start creating a collage, you just need to copy a frame from the movie. But not all players have the required functionality. Video processing programs and graphic editors come to the rescue.
Necessary
- - free video processing program VirtualDub;
- - free raster graphics editor GIMP 2.x.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the video in VirtualDub. Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + O or the menu items File and Open video file … Then specify the desired file in the dialog that appears. Click the "Open" button. You can also drag a file from an Explorer window, folder, or file manager to a VirtualDub window.
Step 2
Navigate to the frame you want to copy. Use the slider, the toolbar buttons located at the bottom of the main application window, or the Go menu items. If you know the content of the movie, make a rough jump to the scene within which the desired frame is located by moving the slider with the mouse. Click the Input Playback button to play the video. Wait for the desired sequence of frames to appear. Click the Stop button. Adjust the current position in the video stream by pressing the arrow keys on the keyboard or the Prev frame and Next frame commands on the Go menu.
Step 3
Copy a frame from the movie to the clipboard. Sequentially select the Video and Copy source frame to clipboard items in the main application menu, or press the Ctrl + 1 key combination.
Step 4
Create a new image in GIMP based on the contents of the movie frame from the clipboard. From the GIMP menu, select File, New, and From Clipboard. You can also use the keyboard accelerator Shift + Ctrl + V.
Step 5
Save the copied frame from the movie to a file on your computer's hard drive. Press Shift + Ctrl + S or select "File" and "Save As …" from the menu. In the displayed dialog, navigate to the directory where the image should be placed. Enter a name for the file in the Name field. In the Select a File Type list, select the item corresponding to your preferred data format. Click the Save button. If necessary, specify the save options in the dialog that appears and click "Save" again.
