The unique identifiers of the removable storage device are used to determine the type of USB controller - Vendor_ID, or VID, and Personal_ID, or PID. The first one allows you to determine the manufacturer of the device, and the second one identifies the device itself.
Instructions
Step 1
Click the "Start" button to bring up the main menu of the Microsoft Windows operating system and go to the "Run" item to perform the procedure for determining the USB controller.
Step 2
Enter a value in the "Open" field and confirm the launch of the "Registry Editor" tool by clicking the OK button.
Step 3
Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetEnumUSB branch and define the necessary information in the keys of the form VID xxxx & PID xxxx.
Step 4
Use specialized programs designed to simplify and automate the procedure for identifying USB controllers for removable Flash drives. Download and install the ChipGenius app, freely available on the Internet.
Step 5
Connect the USB device to be detected to the computer and run the installed application.
Step 6
Wait until the required device is defined in the application window and find the necessary data: - device name; - VID and PID; - manufacturer; - controller model.
Step 7
Use the above algorithm for working with other similar programs: - USBDeview; - CheckDisk; - CheckUDisk.
Step 8
Return to the main Start menu and go to the Run menu again if you cannot determine the necessary parameters to manually correct the problem.
Step 9
Re-enter the value regedit in the "Open" field and confirm the launch of the "Registry Editor" utility by clicking the OK button.
Step 10
Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetEnumUSB branch and clear it from all parameter values for removable devices.
Step 11
Go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetEnumUSBStor branch and retry the cleanup operation. New entries will be created automatically.
Step 12
Exit the Registry Editor utility and restart your computer to apply the selected changes.
