Instructions

Step 1

Windows XP has a dedicated recovery console. It helps in situations where the OS stops loading. To use this feature, insert the Windows XP installation disc into the drive.

Step 2

Open the BIOS menu after restarting your computer. Select the Boot Options menu and enable the initial boot from the DVD drive. Save changes by pressing F10. Restart your PC again.

Step 3

Wait a while while the program copies the necessary files to your hard drive. After launching the first dialog menu, press R. This is necessary to go to the System Restore console.

Step 4

Specify the operating system with which you will continue working. If your computer has only one copy of Windows, type 1 and press Enter.

Step 5

Now enter the password for any account that has administrator rights. If you are not using this level of protection, just press Enter. Now enter the fixboot command. This function is required to overwrite the boot sector.

Step 6

Press the Y key to confirm the start of the process. Enter the fixmbr command and press the Enter key. Confirm the start of the program again by pressing the required key.

Step 7

After the boot file recovery services are finished, type the Exit command, press Enter. Wait for the computer to restart and set the priority for starting from the hard disk.
