Passwords in the Windows operating system are used to access computer administration functions and perform system setup and software installation operations. If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it. To do this, you can use special utilities.
Instructions
Step 1
Download Offline NT Password Editor, which allows you to work with saved passwords and Windows registry entries. The program is distributed in the format of a hard disk image, and therefore you need to burn it to a removable USB-drive or CD-disk. You can do this using the UltraISO utility. Right-click on the program image and select "Open with" - UltraISO from the context menu. Insert the storage medium into your computer and select "Create hard disk image" and then click "Burn".
Step 2
Wait until the end of the procedure and restart your computer. To run the program, you need to set the appropriate BIOS settings. Press F2 while starting the computer (F8, depending on your motherboard model). In the appeared settings window in the Boot - First Boot Device section, specify your USB flash drive or floppy drive, depending on which data carrier you recorded the program on. Save changes (F10) and wait for the application to load.
Step 3
In the menu that appears, specify the number of the disk on which the system is installed, in accordance with the data indicated on the screen in the Candidate Windows Partition line. To select an option, be guided by the size of your hard disk partition, indicated in megabytes. Enter the selected digit and press Enter. Then press Enter again to confirm the section where the administrator passwords are stored.
Step 4
Then enter the number 1 to select the password reset operation (Edit user data and password). In the next section, write in the RID that is listed in the first column of the table above. After that, enter the number 1 again to reset the password. After completing the procedure, enter an exclamation mark to exit edit mode and press Enter.
Step 5
To save your changes, enter the letter q and confirm your entry. Then specify the letter y. Then enter n to restart your computer. Remove the disk or flash drive, and then press the combination of Ctrl, alt="Image" and Del to reboot. The Windows password reset is now complete and you can set a new password in the system settings.
