The file system determines the procedure for organizing the storage of information on an electronic medium. Hard drives, flash cards and other storage devices cannot function without it. The file system can only be created during the formatting process.

Instructions

Step 1

The creation of the file system on the hard drive is carried out directly during the installation of the software. As a rule, disk formatting is performed at one of the installation stages, in which the user is asked to select the disk on which the operating system will be stopped. If this disk has never been used before, then it will simply be necessary to create a file system on it. To create it when installing Windows, select the "Format" command, adjust the disk size and click "Start". If necessary, the hard drive can be split into several parts.

Step 2

You can also create a file system on a hard disk using standard Windows tools. To do this, go to the "My Computer" folder and right-click on the disk that you want to format. When formatting a hard disk from under Windows, select the necessary options, such as the type of file system to be created after formatting, the cluster size of the future logical disk, and the volume name that will be displayed in Explorer. In addition, in the options, you can select the type of formatting, which is fast, as a result of which the disk becomes suitable for recording new data, but is not physically formatted, and standard, as a result of which all data is erased.

Step 3

In addition to the above methods, you can create a disk file system using special software that works with the structure of the hard disk, for example, Acronic Disk Director Suite, as well as special Windows tools. A special disk management tool is enabled as follows: "Start" - "My Computer" (right mouse button) - "Management" - "Disk Management".
