Even simple file operations can be difficult. For example, when you delete a file, you can get a system failure under the guise that it is write-protected, cannot be moved, and so on. In some cases, this protection is physical, as is the case with data recorded on an optical disc, which can only be deleted by damaging (scratching or breaking) the disc itself. If the prohibition is software, it can be removed or bypassed.
Necessary
Computer with Windows OS
Instructions
Step 1
The easiest protected files to delete are those with the "Read-only" property set in their attributes. To change this attribute, right-click on the icon of the required file and select Properties from the context (drop-down) menu. In the window that opens, at the bottom of the "General" tab, uncheck the box next to the "Read only" item. The file can now be deleted.
Step 2
If the file to be deleted is located on another computer on the local network, or your account is not the owner of the file, the attribute will be denied. To change this state, you need an account with administrator rights on the PC from which you want to delete the file. If the account under which you are logged in has these rights, open the Properties window for the file using the method described above. In this window, select the tab called "Security" and find the item "Advanced". Click on it.
Step 3
Click on the "Owner" button. You will see which account is registered as the owner of the file. Below is a list of potential owners from which to select the account you are logged in with. Confirm your selection by clicking OK. If you cannot make a choice, then your account does not have administrator rights. Then proceed in the same way as in the first paragraph of this manual.
Step 4
If the file is located on the local network and the folder where it is located is shared at the Read-only level, it can be deleted only after the network administrator changes this attribute to Full Control. If you are an administrator, right-click on the file icon, select "Sharing and Security" and change the required parameter. Then delete the required file.
