Sometimes the original encoding of a file needs to be replaced with a different one. This may be necessary to convert the text to a more convenient format. Either the original encoding is simply not satisfied, or the text needs to be re-encoded for the website. There can be many reasons. This procedure is simple, but it will take a little time to spend.
Necessary
Computer, Microsoft Office application
Instructions
Step 1
Start a Microsoft Office application. Open the text file for which you want to change the source encoding. In the program menu, select the line Microsoft Office. From the list of options that appear, select the "Advanced" option, then the "General" option and find the line "Confirm file format conversion on open" there. Check the box next to this line. Close the file and then open it again.
Step 2
Now you can change the encoding for an open file. The "Convert File" window will open and find the line "Encoded Text". Now find the "Other" tab. A list appears with different encoding standards. Among them, select the file encoding you need.
Step 3
To view the text in the encoding of your choice, in the Microsoft Office application menu, find the "View" line and click on it with the mouse. Now you should be able to see how the transcoded text will be displayed. If the text of the transcoded file is displayed as the same characters (for example, the same dots), then the font that is needed for this format is missing. In this case, you may additionally need to install the required fonts. You can download them from the official website of Microsoft. Save the changes after the file conversion process is complete. This can be done either when closing the file, or through the program menu.
Step 4
The most common font encoding is Unicode. It supports almost all alphabets and many languages. Unicode supports not only European alphabets, but also the alphabetic characters of Asian countries. It is in the Unicode encoding that it is recommended to save text files. If you decide to re-encode a file from a different encoding, as described above, it would be best to do this in Unicode.
