After installing the Nero 9 multimedia processor on your computer, the Nero StartSmart icon appears on the desktop. This application is a kind of "control center" of the program. With it, you can access all the utilities included in the package, as well as perform simple actions without launching separate applications.
How to burn a data disc with Nero StartSmart
When you start the utility, the Nero StartSmart start window appears on the screen, on the left side of which the frequently used functions are selected. To work with them, you do not need to launch additional applications. If you want to transfer any files with documents to disk, click on the icon with the signature "Data Recording".
To adjust the burn, click on the hammer icon in the upper right corner. You can select the burn speed and tell the program whether to check the recorded data after the process is complete. Click OK to confirm your selection and close the settings window.
In the right part of the "Burn data" window, fill in the input field, indicating the name of the future disk. The drop-down menu below is for selecting the drive to be used for recording. If you select the Image Recorder item, the program will create a disk image that will be saved on your computer. The save location is indicated in the corresponding text box.
The bottom line should indicate the path to the files being written. The "Add" button allows you to select files with a simple mouse click. In this case, the "Capacity bar" will display the amount of used and free space on the disk. The "Delete" button is designed to delete unnecessary files.
There are two more buttons in the same row. The first allows you to display the folder one level above the selected file, and the second allows you to create a new folder in the content area. When you are finished selecting files, click "Burn". The program will start burning the disc. The progress of the recording will be displayed in the status bar, at the end a window will appear with a report on the work done.
Burning an Audio CD with Nero StartSmart
In the left part of the start window of the program, select "Sound recording" You can create:
- audio CD, which will be played on all consumer players; recorded files are automatically converted to Audio CD format;
- MP 3 disc for Jukebox; a disc with audio files in MP 3 format will be created, you can listen to it on a computer or an MP 3-player;
- disc for Jukebox in Nero Digital ™ Audio + (NDA +) format; features high sound quality, can only be played on players that support this format.
When creating a CD, you need to specify the title as well as the name of the artist, this text will be displayed on the display during playback. When creating a Jukebox disc, enter the disc name. It will also be shown on the screen.
All other actions do not depend on the type of disc being created. Using the scrolling list, point the program to the path to the drive. When choosing audio files for recording, use the volume scale to monitor the availability of free disk space.
In the "Parameters" window, specify the burn speed and the need for verification. Click on the "Burn" button. The process of burning the disc will begin, the progress of which can be monitored in the status bar. The results will be shown in a separate window.
Burning a disc in Nero Express
Despite the fact that Nero Express is highly functional, the interface of this application is quite simple, and the standard settings allow you to get good recording quality. For more experienced users, there is an opportunity to apply numerous settings functions in the "Options" window
To burn a disc, you need to select a project, add files to it and start burning. Nero Express can burn both CDs and DVDs. The choice of a disc is made at the stage of project creation; the burning process is absolutely similar.
Work begins in the start window of the program. On its left side, five options for creating a project are listed:
- data - allows you to write any files and folders to disk;
- music - makes it possible to create a selection of audio files and audiobooks in any format and burn them to a disc;
- videos / images - allows you to select video files and / or image files for recording on a disc in VCD / SVCD or DVD-Video format;
- image, project, copy - designed to copy files from the source disk and create a disk image;
- Print LightScribe labels - opens the label creation window.
After choosing one of the proposed options, the "Project window" opens. In addition to the standard file selection and sorting functions, it has options for creating audio or video discs.
Create a collection of files for recording and, if necessary, specify additional project settings. Insert the appropriate blank disc into the drive and click the "Next" button. The "Final Recording Settings" window will open. Use the Current Recorder pull-down menu to select a drive.
Fill in the text boxes for the disc title, and when creating an audio or video file, add the artist name and title. Check the boxes for the required functions. Advanced users can go to the Advanced Settings menu to access additional properties.
Click the Burn button to start the disc burning process. The progress of the burn will be displayed on the status bar. After the end of the process, a window will open in which the results of the operation will be presented. Click OK.
Nero Burning ROM
A powerful application for burning all kinds of discs and recording data, music, video on them. Allows you to burn, taking into account all the individual requirements of the user.
