You can return a damaged hard drive to the store within 14 days after purchase after a quality examination and a written application. Bring the hard volume back to life, i.e. to try to recover the lost data from it, in some cases it is possible at home using special programs.
Instructions
Step 1
As soon as there is a loss of information stored on the disk, you should immediately turn off the computer, open its case and get the hard drive. The need for these actions is caused by the fact that data that could be restored is likely to be overwritten at system startup. Therefore, do not try to work on a computer with lost information.
Step 2
Try to connect the hard drive with data to another computer in Slave mode. Use the dedicated PC Inspector File Recovery application available for free download on the Internet. The program will search for deleted files and display a report on the computer screen. Select the required ones and save them.
Step 3
If volumes are not displayed in Windows Explorer, it is recommended to use MBRTool. The program is free and distributed freely. The problem may be caused by damage to the Master Boot Table (MBR), more specifically its sector tables. MBRTool will analyze existing file structures and repair damaged tables.
Step 4
Check the disk for bad sectors. Please note that service center wizards do not recommend using the built-in ScanDisk or F Disk utilities. Preference is given to the software of the hard disk manufacturer, and bad sector recovery to the specialized utility dd_rescue. It is believed that this Linux-program can bring back to life the maximum number of bad sectors of the hard drive.
Step 5
The appearance of a characteristic odor may mean that the controller has burned out. In this case, you can try to replace the board with the same one from the spare disk. A screwdriver is sufficient for this operation. For more serious mechanical damage, it is recommended to contact the service center.
