Step 1

In Windows XP, turning off the firewall is easy enough. Open Control Panel from Settings in the Start menu. Select the "Firewall" item and in the window that opens, in the "General" tab, check the "Disable" item.

Step 2

Then in the "Control Panel" go to the "Windows Security Center" menu. On the left side of the window, you will see a list titled Resources. Click on the "Change Security Center Alerts" hyperlink. In the drop-down menu, uncheck the box next to the "Firewall" item.

Step 3

For Windows 7, the procedure for disabling the firewall is a little more complicated. In the search bar of the Start menu, type "shell: ControlPanelFolder" and press "Enter". In the window that opens, click on the line "Windows Firewall". On the left side of the window, select Turn Windows Firewall on or off.

Step 4

For each of the indicated network types, check the "Disable Windows Firewall" line. Windows Firewall is off, now you need to stop and turn off the Firewall service. In the start menu search bar, type services.msc and press Enter. On the right side of the Services menu, select Windows Firewall. In the window that appears, in the "General" tab, click the "Stop" button, and then in the "Startup type" selection line, select the "Disabled" option. Click OK.

Step 5

Open the Start menu, type msconfig in the search bar, press Enter. In the window that appears, in the "Services" tab, find the line "Windows Firewall" and uncheck the box, then click "OK". If this step is not completed, the Firewall service will continue to start along with Windows 7 on every reboot.
