To display the recycle bin on the desktop, two pictures are used, corresponding to the empty recycle bin and containing deleted files and folders. Windows OS customization options make it possible to change both shortcuts at once, or each of them separately.
Instructions
Step 1
Start the computer control panel. To do this, open the main menu on the "Start" button and select "Control Panel" in it.
Step 2
If you are using Windows 7, type “personalization” in the search box and click the “Personalization” link in the search results. In Windows Vista, the “Personalization” link is located on the Appearance and Personalization page of Control Panel.
Step 3
Select Change Desktop Icons in the left pane of the Personalization window.

If you are using Windows XP, then the previous steps must be replaced by the following sequence of actions: - right-click on the free space of the desktop and select the "Properties" item in the context menu; - go to the "Desktop" tab and click the "Desktop settings" table ".
Step 5
Click the "Trash (full)" or "Trash (empty)" icon in the list of desktop shortcuts and click the "Change" button. A search window for the icon you need will open to replace the highlighted basket image. Icons can be extracted from library files with dll extension or executable files with exe extension. In addition, there is a file type specifically for storing icon images. It has an ico extension and, unlike dll and exe, contains only one image.
Step 6
Find on your computer the image to replace the icon you have selected and click the "OK" button. Repeat this operation for the second basket icon if you want to change both labels.
Step 7
There is another way to change the recycle bin icons on the desktop. It consists in changing the design theme - in this case, all the icons provided by the new theme will be replaced, including the basket. True, this is not possible in any operating system - for example, Windows 7 "Starter" does not have such an option.
