The power supply unit (PSU) is one of the most important parts of a computer. It is through him that electricity is distributed to all components of the computer. The power supply unit is cooled using an oversized cooler that works on air injection, which is why a huge amount of dust collects in it. For normal operation, any power supply unit must be opened and cleaned from time to time.
Necessary
Computer, power supply, Phillips screwdriver
Instructions
Step 1
In order to open the power supply, it must be removed from the system unit. Most often, the PSU is attached to the upper rear of the system unit with four screws. Based on the size of the screws, select the appropriate Phillips screwdriver. Then open the cover of the system unit and disconnect all power supply wires from the computer components. Remove the three screws that secure the power supply to the side of the computer case. Unscrew the last screw while holding the power supply unit with your hand. Although there is a stand inside the computer case that secures the power supply, it is still better to hold it. For convenience, you can lay the computer case on its side. Then remove the power supply from the computer case.
Step 2
The power supply case can be disassembled by also unscrewing the corresponding screws. The main mounting screws are on the side of the PSU cooler. There are four of them. Unscrew them. Some models have additional mounting screws. Take a close look at the power supply, and if you see them, unwind as well. After that, gently grasp the side of the case, where you unscrewed the screws, and pull it towards you. In this way, you will open the cover of the power supply.
Step 3
If you need to remove the cooler from the power supply, please note that it is fastened with separate bolts. To remove it from the PSU, they also need to be unscrewed. By unscrewing all the bolts, you disconnect the cooler from the power supply case. To completely remove it, you need to carefully remove the wire from the connector on the power supply board. In modern power supplies, the coolers are connected through the corresponding sockets, so it will be very easy to replace the cooler if necessary. The main thing is to choose the cooler that fits your power supply model in size. When reassembling the unit, be careful not to pinch or pinch any wires.
