Blue screen or BSOD is an error that occurs due to the malfunctioning of any equipment in a personal computer. As a rule, this failure leads to a reboot or shutdown of the PC (laptop).
Causes of BSOD
To get rid of the annoying error, you need to find out the reason for its occurrence. Practice shows that most BSODs appear as a result of failure of three devices: hard disk, RAM and video card. The fastest way to determine the cause of a malfunction is to use a search engine.
Wait for the next blue screen to appear and write down the information below the Technical information line. Now enter the first combination of characters, for example 0x00000a5, into the search bar of your browser. This method allows you to quickly determine the cause of the malfunction, and not check each of the listed devices.
Video card drivers
Consider troubleshooting blue screen errors. Update the driver for the video card installed on your computer. Do not use files and software downloaded from unreliable sources. Visit the website of the manufacturer of the video adapter you are using. Find the appropriate drivers for your device. Be sure to check the compatibility of your OS version with these files. The latest drivers may be for Windows 7 (8). If this is the case, please use earlier releases of the software.
RAM
If the previous algorithm did not solve the error, check the RAM. Turn off your computer and remove all RAM modules. Clean the board contacts with a pencil eraser. If you are using multiple RAM modules, try inserting only one of them. This will help you identify the defective RAM card, if one exists. If there is only one RAM module, run the memtest program. To do this, open Start and type mdsched in the Run box. Click on the proposed program and select "Reboot and check".
HDD
Use the Victoria program to check your hard drive. Run it and click the Get Smart button. If a Good or Normal result appears after the test completes, go to the Test tab and click the Start button. Wait for the scan to complete. Replace the hard drive if it is badly damaged. You can also install the operating system on a different drive, and connect the old hard drive as an additional device. This will allow you to copy all the important information onto a new medium.
