Separating part of the image from the background is not an easy task that requires special programs. But by learning to use them correctly, you can create neat selections and make unusual and interesting montages.

Step 1
In order to separate part of the image from the background, you must first select the desired area of the picture. Adobe Photoshop is a multifunctional program and offers several selection methods. Use a variety of tools that are most convenient for your work in a given situation.
Step 2
The easiest and fastest way to select is the Magic Wand tool. This tool works on the principle of similarity of colors, that is, it selects areas of different shades of the same color or similar colors. You can see how the "magic wand" works by clicking at one point on a large area of the same color. The tool allows you to make a good, accurate selection if the borders of the colors are sharp enough, and the number of tones and midtones is small.
Step 3
If you have already made a selection, but want to enlarge the selection, hold down the Shift key and continue to select areas - they will be added to the previous ones. In the case when you need to remove part of the selected area, click on the area of the image that you want to remove while holding down the Alt key.
Step 4
For more precise selection, use the lasso toolset. These include: "lasso", "rectangular lasso" and "magnetic lasso". The first tool allows you to select areas by hand, fixing the line with dots - nodes. "Rectangular lasso" allows you to select areas of the image with straight lines, also fixing the line with nodes. The third tool in this group is one of the most popular selection tools in Photoshop. The tool is also used with nodes, but the line between them seems to stick to the border of the colors. The "magnetic" lasso, as a rule, requires painstaking work, but with it you can get a very accurate and high-quality selection.
Step 5
If your image has bright, uniform areas of any color, use color selection. To do this, in the top menu bar, find "selection", then "color range". A dialog box will open in which you need to select a group of colors to select. The area of the future selection will be displayed in a thumbnail at the bottom of the window.
Step 6
When the selection is ready, proceed to refine its edge. To do this, right-click on the selection area and select "refine edge". In the window that appears, you can change the parameters of the selection radius, edge contrast, blur and other settings. Move the sliders of the parameters to set the optimal one for your particular selection.
Step 7
Now separate the resulting area from the entire image. It is necessary to cut (Ctrl + X) an area and paste it on a new layer (Ctrl + V). You can also use another method: invert the selection. To do this, in the "selection" menu, select "inversion" or "invert". All areas except your selection are now active. Press the Del key and the background will disappear.
