Rar is a compressed file format of one of the most popular WinRAR archiving programs. By default, the application adds additional information to each such file during its creation, which, if the archive is damaged, makes it possible to restore it. This operation does not give one hundred percent result, but it is still worth trying.

Instructions

Step 1

Find the file on your computer that needs to be restored. If it is saved on the desktop, you can skip this step, and in other cases use the "Explorer" - it is launched by selecting the "Computer" item in the main menu of the operating system or by double-clicking on the shortcut with the same name on the desktop.

Step 2

Double-click the found rar file, and the OS will launch the archiver, passing the specified object to it. In the application menu, open the "Operations" section and select the "Restore archive (s)" line. A small window will appear on the screen with several settings for the repair operation. You can call it without using the menu - this command is duplicated by the "hot keys" alt="Image" + R.

Step 3

By default, the "Folder for recording the restored archive" field contains the address of the same directory where the damaged archive is located. If you want to save the corrected file to another location, type its address manually or select it in the dialog opened by pressing the "Browse" button.

Step 4

It makes sense to change the value in the "Archive type" section only when you do not know the format of the damaged file. And even in this case, it is better to first try to restore the archive with the default value selected in this section, and if this does not work, try again by making another choice.

Step 5

Click the Finish button. The archiver will start working, displaying messages about what it is doing at the moment in the information window. The whole operation can take several tens of minutes - the duration depends on the size of the archive being restored.

Step 6

This work requires significant computing resources and significantly loads the computer processor. In some cases, this can cause other running applications to crash or slow down. If their tasks have a higher priority, you can temporarily stop the restoration of the archive - click the "Pause" button in the information window.

Step 7

At the end of the process, the "Close" button in the information window will become active - click it, and the restore procedure will be completed. The corrected copy of the file will be placed in the folder you specified with the name of the source file, to which the fixed prefix will be added.
