Despite the fact that Windows is a fairly common platform, however, it is not the only one. The Linux operating system is also popular. Operating systems based on the Linux kernel have their advantage - no need to search for software, just connect the repository.
Necessary
Operating system based on Linux platform
Instructions
Step 1
How is the software installed under Windows? You open a browser, search for a program in a search engine, go to the official website and download it to your hard drive. If the program is not freely available, you will have to pay for it. On Linux systems, everything is much simpler: connect the repository, go to the Application Center, enter the name of the program and click the Install button. The software is distributed free of charge, so you can get started right away.
Step 2
But what is a repository? In fact, it is a bank of utilities and programs of various types, a kind of storage server. When you need to install any program, you turn to this bank and get the distribution kit of the required application. Each version of the Linux operating system has its own repository. By default, when installing the system, the repositories are already connected.
Step 3
To connect the repository, use the Synaptic applet. This software is located, as a rule, in the "System" tab of the general menu. Each version of the Linux system is different and the location of the general menu can be different. For example, in systems of the alt="Image" family - the bottom menu bar, and in the Ubuntu family, on the contrary - the top menu bar, the "Administration" section.
Step 4
You will see a window in which you must specify the superuser password - an analogue of the administrator in Windows systems. Please note that when entering a password, you must specify the desired keyboard layout; to change it, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift or alt="Image" + Ctrl. After entering, press the Enter key or click the "OK" button.
Step 5
In the main application window, click the top menu "Options" ("Settings") and select the "Repositories" command. An applet will appear in front of you, which will indicate all active or used repositories. Here you need to mark the required repositories by checking the boxes, or uncheck unused repositories. The name of almost every repository reflects its content, for example, ppa.launchpad.net/mozillateam/firefox-stable contains firefox, i.e. serves to install this browser.
Step 6
To save the changes after activating the necessary repositories, click the "New" or "OK" button. Now you have additional repositories that allow automatic updates when a newer version of the program is released. Click the Get Info button to get information about the products in the connected add-ons.
Step 7
To download the program, go to the "Application Center" or to the "Update Manager" applet. Click the Check button and then Install Updates.
