By default, the orientation of the Windows desktop is landscape. However, sometimes you may need to rotate the screen 90 degrees, for example, to view long web pages or just as a friendly joke. Hot keys or standard operating system tools will help with this.
Instructions
Step 1
Graphics adapter manufacturers have provided the ability to rotate the desktop in the device settings. If you have Windows XP installed, right-click on an empty space on your desktop and select Properties. In the properties window in the "Parameters" tab, click the "Advanced" button, this will open the monitor connection properties window. Go to the tab with the name of the graphics card installed on your computer.
Step 2
Further steps will differ slightly depending on which video card is installed on your computer. If it is an integrated graphics adapter from Intel, click the Graphics Specifications button. If 2 monitors are connected to the computer, in the new window, check the one you need and click "Options" in the list on the left. In the "Rotation" section, select the rotation angle and confirm the selection by pressing OK.
Step 3
To change ATI Radeon settings, click the ATI Catalyst Control Center button and in the Control Center window, under Graphics Settings, click Display Manager. In the "Rotation" drop-down list, select the required value.
Step 4
In Windows 7, the procedure will be slightly different. Right-click on an empty space on the desktop and select the "Screen Resolution" option from the context menu. In the "Screen and screen resolution" window, mark the required monitor, if there are 2, and in the "Orientation" drop-down list, specify the desired rotation angle.
Step 5
You can rotate the desktop in all versions of Windows using the hotkeys Ctrl + Alt + ← or + ↑ / → / ↓. If you are concerned about accidental or intentional use of them, you can block these combinations. Right-click on the desktop and select "Graphics Options", "Hot Keys", "Off".
Step 6
There is another way to block the ability to rotate the desktop. Go to the video card settings control window, as described above, and uncheck the "Turn on rotation" box.
