Connecting a second hard drive to the computer may be needed to transfer any data or as an additional storage medium. Be careful when connecting an optional hard drive to avoid damaging the internal components of the computer.
Instructions
Step 1
Turn off the computer and make sure that the system unit is disconnected from the network. Remove the side cover. It is usually attached to the rear wall with several bolts. Unscrew them with a screwdriver and then remove the cover.
Step 2
Make sure your system unit has a hard drive bay. Prepare free space where the second HDD will be installed. It is better to remove the removable compartment outward to secure the drive more securely.
Step 3
Set the jumper on the hard drive when connecting it, if it is an IDE device. The corresponding designations are usually found on the sticker of the hard drive. To connect the device as a second hard disk, set the Slave mode.
Step 4
Insert the HDD into the corresponding slot. Secure with special bolts or locks depending on configuration. Insert and secure the drive cage if you removed it.
Step 5
Connect the hard drive to the motherboard. Connect the appropriate IDE or SATA cable and after that - the cable from the power supply. If you have any difficulties with determining the type of cable, you can look at the connector of the second hard drive. Use the train that suits him.
Step 6
Make sure the connection is secure, replace the cover and tighten the bolts. Connect your computer to the network and press the start button. Immediately after the system boots, the connected device should be detected automatically and then it will be ready for further work.
Step 7
Configure the hard drive manually if the system does not automatically detect it. Go to the "Start" menu, open "Control Panel", select "Administrative Tools", then - "Computer Management". Click on the "Disk Management" tab in the "Storage" section. Right-click on the unallocated area of the disk and select the "Create volume" function.
