A formatting procedure is used to completely delete files from the hard disk. This process allows you to clean the entire hard drive or a specific section of it. In addition, formatting is used when changing the file system type.

Instructions
Step 1
You can use Windows operating system tools to format a secondary hard drive. Connect the hard drive to the computer and turn on the PC. Wait for the system to boot.
Step 2
Wait a while for the new drive to initialize. Press the key combination "Start" and E to launch File Explorer. Find the icon of the second hard drive or one of its partitions. Click on it with the right mouse button.
Step 3
After launching the new dialog box, specify the options to format the drive. First select the file system. If the volume is less than 32GB, you can install FAT32 or NTFS.
Step 4
Specify the size of the cluster. If you are unsure of your choice, simply click the "Restore Defaults" button. Fill in the "Volume label" field. This may be required to quickly identify the section when working with some programs.
Step 5
Deactivate the quick format function by unchecking the checkbox of the desired item. Click the Get Started button. Now click Ok to start the volume cleanup process. Wait for the program to finish running.
Step 6
You can also format the hard disk and divide it into local volumes during the Windows Vista (Seven) installation. Start this procedure and wait for the window with a list of connected hard drives to start.
Step 7
Press the "Disk Setup" button and select the required hard drive with the left mouse button. Click the Remove button. After a while, the graphic display of the disc will change its name to "Unallocated area".
Step 8
Create the required number of local disks on the second hard drive. After that, select each section in turn and click the "Format" button. Now just close the system installer by shutting down your computer. When you turn it back on, wait for the previously installed OS to start and check the activity of the hard drive.
