Finding the MAC address of a network card is a standard Windows operation. Therefore, this task is solved by standard means of the system itself, without the involvement of additional software.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "Control Panel" item. Expand the "Network Connections" link and open the context menu of the connection you are using by clicking the right mouse button. Select the "Status" item and go to the "Support" tab of the dialog box that opens. Use the "Details" command in the "Connection Status" section and find the MAC address of the network card in the "Physical Address" line of the new dialog box. Click the "Close" button to end the preview.
Step 2
Log in with a local administrator account to use an alternative method for determining the MAC address of the network card and bring up the main system menu again by clicking the "Start" button. Go to the Run dialog and type cmd on the Open line. Confirm the launch of the command line utility by clicking OK and type ipconfig / all in the test box of the Windows command interpreter. Confirm the execution of the selected action by pressing the function key Enter, and find the line "Description" with the name of the required network card and the line "Physical address" with its MAC address.
Step 3
The Mac address of the router can be determined using the ping target command and the arp -a command on the command line. Executing these commands will display a table containing the desired address in the line with the target IP address.
Step 4
Use the built-in GetMac.exe utility to determine the MAC address of a computer running Windows 2003, XP, Vista or 2008. This utility is executed in the command interpreter and looks like:
drive_name: / Documents and Settings / user> getmac / s localhost.
If you have access, the localhost parameter can be replaced by the name of any computer on the network.
Step 5
Another method for determining the MAC address of a computer is to use the syntax
nbtstat [-a Remote Computer Name] or [-A Computer IP Address].
