Step 1
To use the Windows Seven operating system restore feature, you must enable automatic recovery checkpoints. It is possible, in some situations, to create these records yourself. Open the properties of the My Computer menu.
Step 2
Go to the "System Protection" item located in the left column. In the tab of the same name, find the "Protection Settings" menu. If the inscription "Disabled" is configured opposite the system partition of the disk, click the "Configure" button.
Step 3
Select "Restore system settings and previous versions of files." Examine the contents of the Disk Usage menu. Set the amount of hard disk used to create system restore checkpoints. It is recommended to allocate more than 1.5 GB of hard disk for this purpose.
Step 4
To restore the required state of the system at the right time, create an image of it. Open the Control Panel menu. Go to the "System and Security" menu. Open the "Backup and Restore" submenu. Go to "Create a system image".
Step 5
Select a location to store this image. Ideally, this should be a portable USB drive, but you can use one of the partitions of the installed hard drive. Click "Next". In the next window, click the "Archive" button and wait for the creation and recording of the system image.
Step 6
To be able to start the recovery process in cases where you cannot boot the operating system, create a system recovery disc. To do this, open a similar item in the "Backup and Restore" menu.
Step 7
Insert a blank DVD into your drive, select this disc reader and click the Create Disc button.
Step 8
In case of system failure, insert this disc into the drive and start it. Select "System Restore". Specify the operating system image or checkpoint to restore it.
