Solving the problem of "lightening", understood as reducing the volume, of the Windows XP operating system will require the user to have sufficient experience in handling computer resources, understanding the meaning of the actions being performed and, of course, administrator access.
Instructions
Step 1
Get rid of the system folder% SystemRoot% / Driver cache / i386, provided the operating system is fully functional. Please note that the distributive saved in it may be required when performing the operation of adding new equipment!
Step 2
Delete the system folder% SystemRoot% system32 / dllcache containing the temporary data of closed system files. Remember that the information in this folder is necessary for automatic system recovery in case of possible damage!
Step 3
Click the "Start" button and go to the "Run" option to perform the operation of an alternative reduction of the cache of protected files.
Step 4
Enter the value cmd in the Open field and click OK to confirm the launch of the Command Prompt tool.
Step 5
Enter the value sfc / cachesize = 0 in the text field of the opened program window and press the Enter function key to confirm the command execution.
Step 6
Return to the main Start menu and go to Run to manually delete the system file cache. Failure to do this will result in automatic restoration of the volume of protected files at the next system scan.
Step 7
Enter regedit in the Open field and click OK to confirm the launch of the Registry Editor tool.
Step 8
Expand the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Software / Microsoft / WindowsNT / CurrentVersion / Winlogon / SFCQuota
and delete all files in the specified directory.
Step 9
Return to the main menu "Start" and open the context menu of the item "My Computer" by right-clicking the mouse to disable the system restore function.
Step 10
Specify the "Properties" item and go to the "System Restore" tab of the dialog box that opens.
Step 11
Check the box next to "Disable System Restore" and click OK to confirm the command.
Step 12
Run the Command Prompt tool as an administrator and enter the powercfg / h off command to disable hibernation.
Step 13
Reduce the size of the paging file and restart your computer to apply the selected changes.
